Vauxhall Wins Electric Police Vehicle Competition, Shows Police-Livery Ampera

Vauxhall Showing Police-Livery Ampera

Vauxhall has won a competition by the Association of Chief Police Officers Intelligent Transport Systems in the UK to develop an electric police by 2015.

Vauxhall has already looked into developing the Ampera for police use and created a police-liveried version for the Police & Security Conference in January 2011. That vehicle had external-mounted cameras, an internal camera for facial identification, the display screen modified to display police information and a second screen to display police information on the sun visor.

“We are delighted to have won the ACPO ITS competition and are excited to have displayed the fittingly ground-breaking Ampera featuring this array of cutting-edge equipment,” said Dick Ellam, Vauxhall Special Vehicles Manager.

The Ampera is a range extended vehicle. Luckily, has otherwise the police will run the risk to run out of electricity in the middle of a car chase ;-)
