has laid the foundation for a new €230 million transmission factory in Tianjin, China, that will be completed in 2014.
The factory will be able produce 450,000 units a year when it is completed and employ 1,500 people. Volkswagen will also work with vocational schools to train future workers. The workers will be trained in a dual vocational training program modeled on the German system.
“Our new transmission plant is further confirmation of the inseparable bond between China and Volkswagen. Tianjin will become a cornerstone of our Chinese production network and a driving force for th e economy in the entire region”, said Dr. Jochem Heizmann, Head of VW AG in China.
China is now VW Group's largest single market. It sold 2.26 million cars there in 2011. It has sold 1.51 million cars there in the first seven months of the year - a 17.1% improvement over that period in 2011.
