Volkswagen has unveiled the fastest ever Golf cabriolet at the world’s largest GTI meet in Wörthersee. Called the Golf R Cabriolet Concept, the ‘power cabrio’ is a sportier variant of the recently released Golf Cabriolet.
The engineers at Volkswagen R GmbH have fitted the same 2.0 litre turbocharged engine as the hard-top Golf R which produces 199 kW and 350 Nm from just 2,500 rpm. This makes for identical performance figures of 0-100 km/h in less than six seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h.
The cabriolet also features the same sport chassis as the closed-roof Golf R which lowers the vehicle by 25mm. It will have a 17-inch brake system with internally ventilated discs and blue painted brake calipers which R logos. 19-inch “Talladega” alloy wheels with size 235 tyres are responsible for putting the R Cabriolet’s power to the road.
The sporty theme continues on the interior with dark blue carbon leather motorsport shell seats. Carbon accents, sand-blasted aluminium door sill plates and black piano paint inlays finish off the inside’s look.
Also on display at Wörthersee are two visually-modified variants of the Golf R Concept and a new range of lifestyle items and vehicle accessories from the GTI shop.
