has added its 4MOTION all-wheel drive system to the Golf VariantGolf Variant Trendline BlueTDI 1,6 TDIVolkswagen Golf Variant T...Germany, 2013 > present. The model can be ordered now in all trims with either the 1.6 TDI or 2.0 TDI engine. Deliveries will begin in a few months.

The 1.6 TDI produces 104hp and 184lb-ft of torque and uses 4.5l/100km of fuel. It can tow up to 1,900kg. The 2.0 TDI has 148hp and 236lb-ft of torque and uses 4.8l/100km of fuel. It can tow up to 2,000kg. Both engines come with a six-speed manual transmission.

The all-wheel drive system is a fifth-generation unit from Haldex. Volkswagen claims that in some situations it can prevent wheel slip before it even begins. At most times, full power is sent to the front wheels to save fuel, but when towing or when wheels slip, power is sent to the rear. An electro-hydraulic oil pump controls the differential.

The 4MOTION Golf Variant starts at €24,400 for the 1.6 TDI in Trendline trim and tops out at €29,075 for the 2.0 TDI in Comfortline trim. Prices include 19% German VAT.
