continues to dominate the European auto industry as it announces that it has sold 4.21 million vehicles from January to September. It is the first time ever that the brand has sold over 4 million vehicles in the first three quarters of the year. Its sales are up 10.6% over the same period last year when it sold 3.81 million cars.
Volkswagen as a brand sold 492,500 in the September, which is 4.3% better than the 472,100 it sold last September.
Sales for Volkswagen brand have been especially strong in the Asia-Pacific and North American regions this year. Sales are up 16.4% for the year so far and sold 1.68 million cars. China is by far its largest market in the region where it sold 1.52 million cars. Sales in North America were up 26.1% to 456,500 cars. The US was especially strong; sales were up 37.2% to 323,100. The South America region was up 8.1% to 626,200. Europe is still a major market for the Volkswagen brand where it sold slightly over 1.3 million cars, 0.2% more than last year.
