The new Volvo S60 will have its world premiere in next month’s Geneva Motor Show. According to the brand this new generation brings “the most dynamic car model Volvo has ever presented”.
For Volvo Cars' Design Director Peter Horbury, the new S60 has a coupe feeling and “the rear doors come as something of a pleasant surprise when you examine the car close-up”. The new lines give the S60 a more dynamic profile with the C-pillar stretching all the way to the tail lamps and the sculpted bonnet and the short overhangs front and rear.
The car was developed searching solutions and refinements for virtually every single detail that influences a car's driving properties. The results include improved steering, stiffer springs and bushes as well as more damping than in any previous Volvo
As for the engines that will power the new S60, four powertrains will be available – two petrol and two diesel. During the first year of production other four engines will be added to the range, including a 1.6-litre diesel engine DRIVe version that will have a fuel consumption of 4.3 l/100 km (EU Combined, preliminary figure), corresponding to CO2 emissions below 115 g/km.
The S60 features the new four-cylinder 2.0 GTDi (Gasoline Turbocharged Direct Injection) engine. This Volvo-developed turbocharging technology, direct injection and twin variable camshafts manages to combine low fuel consumption, low emissions and high performance across a wide rev range.
Volvo is targeting a 90,000 unit sales for the first year, with customers spread uniformly throughout the world – Europe (including Russia), North America and the rest of the world each accounting for about one-third of total sales. The first vehicles will be available in the beginning of summer.
