Williams driver Pastor Maldonado set the fastest time on the third day of Formula One testing on February 23. Maldonado's pace was even quicker than Nico Hulkenberg yesterday by about 0.2 of a second. Most of the cars did long stints on the track, which explains the generally slower times today compared to yesterday. Schumacher completed 59 laps in one stint and did the most laps of the day.
There was more news in Lotus' continuing chassis issues today. The team has applied for permission of an extra day of practice because it has missed the entire week since discovering a major flaw with the chassis on Tuesday. The other teams have to agree to allow Lotus the extra day, but the chance of it receiving permission seems high. Mercedes was granted an extra day of testing after missing a day of practice at Jerez a few weeks ago.
Tomorrow is the last day of the second round of Formula 1 testing. The third and final round will run from March 1-4.
The racing season starts at the Australian Grand Prix on March 15-18.
