History

GMC's history goes back to 1901 when Max Grabowsky established the Rapid Motor Vehicle Company, a company that manufactured some of the first commercial trucks. In 1909 General MotorsGMGMUnited States of America, 1998 > present8 models

developed an interest in the company and decided to acquire it and found the General Motors Truck Company, which originated the name GMC Trucks. The marque GMC Trucks was first presented at the 1912 New York International Auto Show.

In its early years the GMC name was just a short name for General Motors Corporation, it would only be years later that GMC would finally become a division of the corporation itself. From that moment on the corporation would be known only as GM.

In 1925, GM acquired a percentage of Yellow Coach, a bus manufacturer and in 1943 it acquired the remaining share and named it GM Truck and Coach Division. The Division extended the production of interurban coaches until 1980.

Nowadays GMC manufactures pick-up trucks, SUVs, light and medium duty trucks.
