The Jeep Compass (MK49) is a compact crossover SUV launched in 2007. It is a 4-door vehicle with front engine, front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive layout. The Jeep Compass was preceded by a 2002 concept vehicle, featuring a two door body, all-wheel drive and a 3.7-liter V6 engine.
The Jeep Compass and Patriot are the entry-level models in the Jeep range just below the Wrangler. The Compass is regarded as targeting first-time Jeep buyers as it is made mainly for paved roads, in contrast to the more traditional Jeep vehicles which are reknown for their off-road capacities.
For 2011 the Jeep Compass was reviewed and now shows a look more similar to that of the Grand Cherokee.

For the model year 2011 the Jeep Compass borrows some design cues from the brand’s flagship model Grand Cherokee. The 2011 version offers improved 4x4 fuel economy and off-road capability in the compact-SUV segment.
With its ride and handling being enhanced, thanks to upgraded steering and suspension systems, the 2011 Jeep Compass has also seen its interior refined. Jeep describes it as a “blend of premium styling, capability, efficiency and value”.
In terms of design the Jeep Compass received a refreshed look that has some resemblance to the all-new, premium 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. New features include the hood, front fenders, fascia and headlamps. A new grille is also part of the novelties for 2011. It has been detailed with a small dose of chrome surrounding the traditional seven slots found on all Jeep vehicles. The new Compass has a more serious look, but at the same time more sophisticated.
At the back of the Compass changes have also been made. The 2011 version gets a new rear fascia, new body-color rear spoiler and subtle, upscale touches including new LED tail lamps and on the Limited model, bright trim on the step pad and a chrome exhaust tip have been added.
The 2011 Jeep Compass’ engine lineup is composed by two choices. The first is a standard 2.0-liter World Engine with a power output of 158 hp and torque of 191 Nm, matted with a continuously variable transmission (CVT2). It also can be coupled with a five-speed manual transmission.
The other engine available is a 2.4-liter World Engine that delivers a maximum power output of 172 hp and torque of 223 Nm. Thanks to the use of dual Variable Valve Timing (VVT) technology on both intake and exhaust camshafts, the 2.4-liter World Engine has an optimized torque curve at all speeds, produces more power, better fuel economy and smoother, quieter operation than engines without dual VVT.
