Bernie Ecclestone has revealed that he has put a bid in to buy the Nürburgring. The amount of the bid has not been disclosed. It is also not known whether Ecclestone’s bid is for both the 20km circuit and grand prix circuit or just one of them.
"We made an offer and we now wait for it to be accepted. We believe that we can do more than anyone else for the circuit. There could be a decision as early as in the coming weeks,” said Ecclestone in an interview with the German newspapers Handeslblatt and Wirtschaftwoche.
The track declared bankruptcy in 2012 and has been run by liquidators since 2013. The liquidators are taking bids on the track in pieces or for the whole thing, including a hotel and amusement park.
"We're in the final stages of the process and want to conclude it in Q1, so that the new owner(s) can start the season in April,” said a representative for the liquidators.
The liquidators have refused to comment on the nature of any of the bids that it has accepted.
There are two other known bidders for the German track – the ADAC, which is the German motor club, and a consortium of local business around the track.
