Chevrolet has revealed a special edition, racing-inspired package for the 2012 line-up of Corvettes.
The Centennial Edition package celebrates 100 years since Chevrolets founding by racing pioneer Louis Chevrolet, and will be available on all three Corvette models – the Grand Sport, Z06 and ZR1. The package will feature a ‘sleek black colour scheme, unique design elements and Corvette’s trademark sports car technology.’
A Carbon Flash Metallic finish gives the Centennial Edition Corvettes a ‘sinister’ look, which satin-black graphics and wheels combined with red brake calipers also contribute to. The dark colour scheme continues on the interior with an Ebony leather-wrapped instrument panel and doors, with red stitching on the steering wheel, seats, console and gear lever. The seats, steering wheel, shifter and armrests also feature microfiber suede.
Some slight design alterations are also evident with the Centennial Edition package. Graphics featuring the company’s founder Louis Chevrolet appear on the B-pillars, centre caps of the wheels, and the centre of the steering wheel. A centennial logo features on the seat headrests and the obligatory crossed flags contain a ‘100’ in place of the typical fleur-de-lis symbol.
Rick Scheidt, vice president of Chevrolet marketing, said “Racing and performance are the roots of Chevrolet, a tradition carried forward today by Corvette. The Centennial Edition not only celebrates our 100 years, it once again pushes Corvette forward for a new generation of sports car fans.”
“Louis Chevrolet was a fearless racing pioneer who also designed our first car. Corvette is a natural fit to honour that legacy, while creating a compelling new package for sports car drivers.”
The Centennial Edition Corvettes will be available for purchase in summer, with pricing to be announced shortly beforehand.
