As the 2010 World Rally Championship is heading to its final leg in Great Britain, the time comes to close an era of rally cars, that of the 2-litre turbo World Rally Cars. This also means that Citroën will also have to say goodbye to the C4 WRC that has already become part of rallying legend with 35 victories in 55 rallies.
Both Citroën crews Sébastien Loeb / Daniel Elena and Sébastien Ogier / Julien Ingrassia will be aiming victory in Great Britain, with C4 WRC ending its career on a high note.
As it has become part of tradition the FIA World Rally Championship is ending in Cardiff. As usual the unstable weather should make the already quick and technical Welsh stages even more difficult. Rain, mud, fog and occasionally ice and snow are all possible in this rally with a unique atmosphere.
Having already secured his seventh world title Sébastien Loeb will start the the Rally of Great Britain under no pressure. As always he will be coming to this final leg very determined.
“Whenever we start a rally, we do so with the intention of winning,” says the seven-time world champion. “If I feel good and the conditions are favourable, there’s no reason why I shouldn’t be gunning for a third win on the bounce in Wales.”
With the runner-up position in the standings still uncertain Sébastien Ogier, Jari-Matti Latvala and Petter Solberg will be having a nice battle ahead of them. Ogier has been lying in second place since he won the Rally of Portugal and has an eleven and sixteen point advantage over Latvala and Solberg respectively.
“We didn’t think we’d be fighting for second place this season,” admits Ogier who is driving for the Citroën Total World Rally Team for the third time. “It’s become our objective as the season’s unfolded. We lost a few points in France and Spain, but we’re still in front and a place on the podium will be enough no matter where our two rivals finish.”
Still Ogier says he won’t be holdng back and racing in Great Britain just to score the fifteen points he needs to be second at the end of the season. “To achieve my aim I want to fight for the best possible result.”
