Kia reveals new generation Optima

In terms of dimensions the new generation is slightly longer, taller and wider. The new Optima is 10mm wider and the wheelbase has been increased by 25mm. Thanks to the new dimensions the sedan offers more space for passengers and cargo volume.

The stiffness of the new Kia Optima has also been improved with the use of more than 50% of the body made of high strength steel. Thanks to the use of a larger ratio of carbon-reinforced plastic fiber, the Korean brand was able to reduce the Optima weight in order to lower noise and vibration of the vehicle.

In New York Kia unveiled the American version of the model that will be produced for that market in Georgia. The vehicle that will be sold in Europe will be produced in South Korea.

In the US market the new Optima will be available with three engines. Two of them remain from the previous generation, the 2.4-liter GDI and the 2.0-liter GDI turbo, the third is a new 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 178hp combined with a new dual-clutch seven-speed gearbox, a first for Kia. For the European market the new Optima can also be offered with the 1.7-liter diesel engine, used in the current generation.

The technology available in the American version of the new Optima includes an 360º camera view, adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, blind spot detection and dynamic headlights.

The estate version of the new Kia Optima will be launched in the second half of 2016. This model was previewed at the Geneva Motor Show through the Sportspace concept.
