It is obvious that Renault has missed Robert Kubica’s many talents in 2011. While the other drivers have scored points many believe the Polish driver would have been able to deliver podiums this season.
It had seemed likely that Kubica would be back in the car next season and that he would have some track time at the end of this season. However, doubt has been cast on this prognosis.
Renault currently has no idea whether the Pole will be able to compete next year and it has taken the step of putting Romain Grosjean in the car for Friday practice in Abu Dhabi and Brazil in an effort to explore other options.
"We have to assess options and we are still waiting for Robert to come back to us to say he can test," explained Boullier. "The last information I have is that we will have to sit down and discuss how we can handle his [Kubica's] comeback, because I don't believe he can commit in the coming days. In the coming weeks maybe – but not coming days.
Boullier went on to say that Renault has the 2009 car ready in the garage as soon as Kubica is ready to come back. Boullier is confident that Kubica will race in Formula 1 again but say that he cannot be 100% sure until Kubica has driven at full speed in a Formula 1 car.
