Maserati Kubang: a Luxury SUV with a Little Help from Jeep

The first thing that everyone thinks of when they consider Maserati's long, sports car history is its reputation as a truck maker. Well, as Porsche has illustrated making an SUV means more core models, and that is exactly what Maserati is doing with its Kubang SUV.

Maserati remains cagey on how much of the Kubang is actually being borrowed from its parent company's, Fiat, recent takeover of Jeep. Maserati that the basic platform is based on Jeep components but says that the eight-speed transmission, brakes, suspension and steering will be Maserati components.

The exterior is also exclusively Maserati that uses the concave grill and headlight style of the Granturismo cars. The truck flows into a fastback-style rear that is a little reminiscent of the Infiniti FX.

Maserati is not saying exactly when the Kubang will be released or what it will be powered by.
