with 30% more down force, which would not make it legal to race in FIA GT3. It is also not street legal. That means if you buy the car, you had better have a track nearby to drive the car. McLaren will build a limited run of 30 Can Am Editions available to buyers all over the world. 

The Can-Am Editions all come painted in McLaren Orange to celebrate the cars that McLaren raced in the Can-Am Series from 1966 to 1974.

"The reaction and response following the unveil was remarkable. It is a real testament to the performance and results of the McLaren GT customer teams this year, still only in the debut competitive season, that there is such a strong demand for this type of track-day special," said Andrew Kirkaldy, Managing Director of McLaren GT.

McLaren aims the Can-Am Editions to be an ultimate track car. It is built outside of the racing regulations to produce 630hp, which is about 13hp more than the road version and 130hp more than the race version. It is also the most powerful version of the 12C produced so far. 

To create the extra 30% of down force, McLaren has fitted a larger, carbon fiber wing and an all-new carbon fiber body kit. The door mirror mounts and covers, engine cover vents, side radiator intake vanes, sill covers and badges are all made from carbon fiber, which is not the case on the GT3 car. It rides on black, forged wheels.

Inside, the Can-Am Editions have a FIA-spec roll cage, two racing seats with six-point harnesses, the GT3-car's steering wheel and an air conditioning system. 

Production of the Can-Am Editions starts in March and each of the 30 cars produced will cost £375,000 ($596,236).
