for the new model year with a new engine. The C180 BlueEFFICIENCY gets a new 1.6-liter turbocharged petrol engine. Mercedes is also adding several trim lines.

All cars get a new interior with cruise control moved to a stalk on the steering column and a center console moved further back into the car.

The C180 BlueEFFICIENCY has a new 1.6-liter turbocharged engine with 154hp and 250Nm of torque. The sedan and estate both have 47.9mpg imp fuel efficiency. The sedan produces 138g/km of CO2; the estate makes 139g/km of CO2. The coupe version uses 44.1mpg imp and produces 149g/km of CO2.

The new base trim level is called Executive SE, and is available as the C180 BlueEFFICIENCY, C200 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY or C220 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY in sedan or estate body styles. The cars get the sports grill, 16in wheels and LED running lights standard.

The Elegance trim has been replaced by Luxury and adds the three-bar grill with hood-mounted Mercedes star, 17in wheels, auto dimming rearview mirror, power folding side mirrors, chrome trim and Ash wood trim.

Mercedes has also split the Sport trim into two new models - AMG Sport and AMG Sport Plus. To be clear, this is not the full C63 AMG model but a separate, lower trim line. They get 17in wheels and halogen headlights.

The Sport Plus gets 18in wheels, bi-xenon headlights with high beam assist, sports seats with red stitching and red seatbelts and AMG floor mats. If you order the package on the Coupe version, you get a rear spoiler as well.

Finally, there is the AMG Handling Package that is only available on the coupe or the Dynamic Handling Package on the sedan and estate. The packages add an uprated suspension, sharper steering and a different exhaust.

The C-Class Generations

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class is a truly multi-talented range of cars, available both as a compact Saloon and successful racing car. As Coupé and versatile Estate for leisure, family and professional use, it is also as an innovative technology carrier and a top-seller now in its fourth generation. "C" standing for "Compact", it is slotted below the E-Class, S-Class and SL-Class in the Mercedes portfolio.

Mercedes-Benz W 201: 1983-1991

The 190 model came in 1982. The W 201 saloon was called internally “compact class”. Technical innovations were a multi-link independent rear suspension, a lightweight steel structure, aerodynamic bodywork and passive safety. It also had an encapsulated diesel engine, known as the “whisper diesel”.

Mercedes-Benz C-Class W 202: 1993-2000

The 202 series was the first official Mercedes-Benz C-Class. The Saloon debuted in 1993 with enhanced interior at the same exterior dimensions as the 190. It was the world’s first passenger car to have four-valve diesel engines, the first turbodiesel with four-valve technology and charge-air cooling, and in 1997 the first with common-rail direct injection (CDI).

Mercedes-Benz C-Class W 203: 2000-2007

The third generation of the compact class came in 2000 with a moore sporty design. By the fall of 2000, a sports coupé joined the line-up and the Estate arrived in 2001. Technical innovations in this C-Class included the SEQUENTRONIC automated six-speed transmission.

Mercedes-Benz C-Class W 204: since 2007

In 2007, the 204 series arrived as Saloon and Estate. The Sports Coupé was replaced by the CLC-Class. A new C-Class Coupé was introduced in 2011. Innovations were the AGILITY CONTROL package, Intelligent Light System with five different lighting functions and the PRE-SAFE® preventive occupant protection system as well as the BlueEFFICIENCY models.
