Mercedes debuts new M-Class

Mercedes-Benz has revealed pictures and specifications of their third generation M-Class SUV. The truck shows a commitment to a greener image by featuring more fuel efficient engines and lowering the coefficient of drag over the out-going model.

The new Mercedes-Benz M-Class will be sold with three model specifications – the ML 250 BlueTEC 4MATIC, ML 350 BlueTEC 4MATIC and ML 350 BlueEFFICIENCY. The ML 250 uses Mercedes's 2.1 liter four-cylinder diesel. It has improved fuel efficiency and produces less CO2 than the out going 3 liter while making exactly the same power. The ML 350 uses an improved version of the 3 liter six-cylinder diesel from the previous model. The revisions allow it to make 20hp more power and to use 24% less fuel than the old engine. The ML 350 BlueEFFICIENCY is the only petrol-powered version being offered.

The new M-Class is more than just new engines. Continuing the commitment to efficiency, the M-class has a best in class coefficient of drag of .32, and it is also an improvement over the outgoing model. Both models have start/stop functionality and feature a new seven speed transmission.

For the first time the M-Class will come will come with a selective damping suspension as standard. The system firms up the truck's suspension as you drive faster allowing for a softer ride at low speeds and more control as the truck's speed increases.

To further improve driving, buyers' can order the Active Curve System. It uses active anti-roll bars to compensate for body-lean through corners. Mercedes claims this increases occupant comfort and driving safety.

The new truck has a more spacious interior over the previous model and a host of entertainment and convenience features. As standard it comes with a 14.7cm display with radio, CD player and AUX-IN socket. Optionally, the COMAND Online system is available. The system features a larger 17.8cm display, Internet access,  and apps for Facebook, weather and Google, including the ability to load previously configured Google Maps into the navigation system.

Pricing has not yet been revealed but more information should be available soon.
