The new 308 is built on Peugeot’s new EMP2 modular platform that will reduce weight by 140kg (309lb), and Peugeot will offer a version with emissions below 85g/km of CO2. Peugeot has applied for 116 patents on the EMP2 platform

“The new Peugeot 308, it is a pure and technological exterior design that speaks of high-strength and high-quality," said Gilles Vidal, Peugeot’s Design Director.

. Most of the creases in the hood are gone, as are the long headlights that extended nearly to the car’s windshield. Instead, the 308 has a two-tier grill with smaller headlights with integrated LED running lights. It might have a classier look, but it will not turn as many heads as the previous generation.

Inside, Peugeot is introducing a new design that it calls i-cockpit. The new design focuses on the driver, and the instruments and infotainment are very driver focused. It also includes a smaller steering wheel, head-up display and a 9.7” touchscreen. The infotainment system has all touchscreen controls except for the volume, which is still controlled by a knob because Peugeot still wanted there to be a tactile experience.

The 308 will be assembled at Peugeot’s Sochaux factory in France.

Peugeot has not announced the engine range for the 308 yet.
