Rolls-Royce Brings 2 Cars to China with Ultimate Versions of Phantom and Ghost

Slideshow
The Phantom Extended Wheelbase is the new ultimate car in the Rolls range

Rolls Royce has two concepts at the Auto Salon China, and they offer highly luxurious interiors in the brand's most expensive and least expensive models. The Rolls-Royce Ghost Six Senses Concept takes the brand's smallest model and adds something to treat each of the senses; the Phantom Extended Wheelbase is meant to be the ultimate Rolls-Royce available now.

The new top-of-the-line Rolls-Royce is the Phantom Extended Wheelbase, and Rolls says that it is the final model in the Phantom model line that includes the standard car, coupe and convertible.

The extended wheelbase model is based on the Series II Phantom that debuted at the Geneva Motor Show. These cars get full LED headlights, a navigation unit that includes land topography on an 8.8in screen and better controls for the infotainment system. They also get a new eight-speed automatic gearbox and direct-injected V10 that lowers emissions by 10% compared to Series I cars.

Beyond the extra interior space, the Phantom Extended Wheelbase does not really offer anything over a standard Phantom. It still gets the Rolls-Royce attention to detail with five layers of paint and laquer, any choice of color, wood trim that comes from a single log and is made by hand by Rolls' craftsmen and hand-selected leather.

The Phantom Extended Wheelbase will be available to buyers for order soon, but a date was not specified.

The Rolls-Royce Ghost Six Senses is a very nicely trimmed version of the standard Ghost. It comes in pearlescent Carrera White paint with a walnut burr and leather interior. For sound, the car comes with a better sound system than the regular car with an added amplifier and speakers embedded in the headrest. Rolls-Royce says that inside, passengers can smell the leather that is used on the seats and headliner. For taste, there is a refrigerator in the rear seat console that holds two Champagne flutes and enough room for a small bottle of Champagne; and for touch the car is made of a mixture of materials inside and out for tactile feedback. The seats are full grain leather with lambswool floor mats and a lambswool-lined trunk.

Really the car is just a slightly updated version of the standard Ghost. While Rolls-Royce has applied some unique touches to the car, there is nothing that makes it stand out of a concept.

Rolls-Royce is attempting to grow in China. It launched three new dealers this year and is planning five more in the near future. It is hoping that the expanding Chinese wealth will grow demand in its cars.
