Rolls-Royce rally car for sale

A Rolls-Royce Corniche that once competed in the Paris-Dakar Rally has been put up for sale by its owner. The car was created in 1979 by Thierry Sabine and competed in the 1981 Paris-Dakar rally. Although it was disqualified after an extended stop was required to repair accident damage.

£170,000 will secure the Rolls-Royce, and for a further £25,000 the owner will fit modern axles and brakes.

The fashion mogul Christian Dior paid for the original project, which was dreamed up over dinner. Once the details were agreed the build was put into motion a mould was made of the original body and a lightweight version was fitted.

A small block Chevrolet V8 was linked to a four-wheel drive set up. The whole car weighs in at a paltry 1400kg. The Rolls Royce also comes with a 330 litre fuel tank and is not only road legal but also eligible for competition.

The car was not created by Thierry Sabine in 1979, it is the Paris Dakar rally that Thierry Sabine created in 1979...

I saw this car as a kid in the 'Parc Ferme' of the Paris Dakar. If I remember well, it was Thierry de Montcorge who created this car...

I never thought I would see the day a Roll Royce rally car would exist. What's next?

So...a Roller is a fiberglass body, a swing-set frame, a Chevy engine and Toyota transmission and axles? Had it broken sooner would they ask even more money? Some cars are forgettable for a reason.
