BMW says that the new model will have a very different look, and it will be influenced by the Gran Lusso CoupeBMW Gran Lusso CoupeGermany, 2013 > 2013 concept. BMW is aiming for more than just style with the car; it will also be the most aerodynamic generation ever. The sedan will launch first and be followed by wagon and GT body styles.

and could be used for SUVs as well. The new platform also makes it much easier for BMW to offer multiple wheelbase lengths and track widths, which will allow for market specific versions, especially for China.
The 5 Series will also be the first BMW to get the company’s new semi-autonomous driving system that will allow drivers to take their hands off the wheel, but they still must pay full attention to the road.
The engine range has yet to be completed decided for the car. It is possible that even BMW’s 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine could be included, and the 2.0-liter four-cylinder will certainly be included for at least the European market. A plug-in hybrid version will also be offered. It will also be offered with a further evolution of the current 4.4-liter V8. Many of the engines will be offered with a new nine-speed automatic supplied by ZF.
