A fleet of 20 Nissan Leaf taxis will be on the streets of Zurich, Switzerland, by the end of the year. New York, Tokyo, Mexico City, Amsterdam and Sao Paulo already have Nissan Leaf taxi fleets.
The first 10 taxis will be delivered in the coming weeks, and the next 10 will be there by mid-2013. They will all be painted in bright green. The city has also built a network of fast chargers that get 100% of their power from renewable energy.
The program is called the Zurich Green Taxi Initiative, and it hopes to promote more zero-emissions taxis in the city. It wants 15% of the city's taxi fleet to be electrically powered by 2015.
“Many thousands of citizens and visitors to Zurich will be able to discover first-hand how zero emission electric vehicles cars like Nissan Leaf are ready to change the world in which we live," said Andy Palmer, Nissan Executive Vice President.
