Portuguese Police Purchase 8 Nissan Leafs

The 8 Leafs will be used at the safe school program

The Portuguese Polícia de Segurança Pública (PSP)  which is the country's urban police force has purchased 8 Nissan LeafsLEAF SLNissan LEAF SLJapan, 2011 > present2 photos
and outfitted them for police duty. Granted, the cars will mostly be used around schools as part of the force's Safe Schools program. it makes the PSP the first police force in the world to buy electric vehicles for official uses. 

The vehicles are official police vehicles with flashing lights, sirens and 'Policia' markings. 

"We pride ourselves in being the first police force in the world to incorporate cars with zero-emission technology as part of our 5,000 vehicle fleet," said Paul Gomes Valente, National Director of the PSP.

Portugal was the first country in Europe that got the Leaf in 2011, and the country has been building an infastructure for charging electric vehicles.
