had record sales in August of 27,852 cars, up 28% from the previous August. Jaguar sales were 5,405 cars for August, up 92%, and Land Rover sales were 22,447 cars in August, up 18%.
Regionally for August, sales in Asia were up 35%, up 40% in North America but down 1% in Europe. The UK and China alone saw sales increase 36% and 43% respectively.
"August has proven to be another incredibly strong month for Jaguar Land Rover with sales growth from both our established and new model lines,” said Phil Popham, Jaguar Land Rover head of sales.
For the year from January to August, Jaguar Land Rover has sold a cumulative 269,653 cars, up 16% from the same period last year. Regionally, sales grew 29% in Asia, 28% in North America and 5% in Europe. The UK and China were up 16% and 21% respectively.
The company plans to continue to expand and is investing £1.5 billion to create 1,700 new jobs at its Solihull headquarters to build new models. The new jobs will be used to build Jaguar Land Rover’s new modular, aluminum platform that will be introduced in 2015 on Jaguar’s mid-size sport sedan.
“We place the customer at the heart of everything we do and the introduction of a world class all-new aluminum vehicle architecture means we will be more competitive, flexible and efficient delivering exciting new products for our customers around the world," said Land Rover Jaguar CEO Dr. Ralf Speth.
The company is also expanding its engine plant to build its new family of petrol and diesel four-cylinder turbocharged engines.
