factory to produce half of its energy from renewable sources.

The factory already had a deal with Mexican energy company Enel Green Power to supply 45% of the factory's electricity. Enel produces its power from 100 large windmills in southern Mexico.

Nissan has just added a deal with a biogas supplier outside of Mexico City. The company creates electricity by burning biogas created by the breakdown of organic material in a landfill. It will supply 5% of the factory's energy needs.

"It is a question of really being advocates of protecting the planet for the generations to come," said José Valls, president of Nissan Mexicana.
