has built its two millionth EcoBoost engine since launching the turbocharged engines in 2009. Production for 2013 is up 60% from 2012, and it is the first time ever that EcoBoost engines have exceeded Ford’s diesel engine production.

Ford is building over a 100,000 EcoBoost engines per month worldwide.

“Ford EcoBoost delivers great performance with lower fuel bills, a recipe that is proving incredibly popular with consumers around the world,” said Joe Bakaj, Ford’s head of powertrain engineering.

The EcoBoost engine family currently consists of the 1.0-liter three-cylinder; 1.5-liter, 1.6-liter and 2.0-liter four-cylinder versions; and the 3.5-liter V6. By the end of the year, the turbocharged engines will be available in 80% of Ford models worldwide and in 95% of models by 2015.
