Aston Martin revealed its hydrogen racecar for the Nürburgring 24 Hours in april 2013. Instead of using hydrogen to create power for an electric motor to provide power, the hydrogen fuels directly the car's twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V12. The engine was integrated into the body of the Rapide S.
The engine runs on both gasoline and hydrogen or a blend of both. In hydrogen mode, it emits no CO2, and the only thing that goes out of the rear is water. To make this work, the car has a special fuel management system that can change the combustion process based on the situation and fuel. The hydrogen is stored in four carbon fiber tanks that each hold 3.5kg.
