Audi has unveiled the RS5 Cabriolet in the end of 2012 and will be showing it in Detroit. It uses a 4.2-liter V8 that produces 450hp and 430Nm of torque.

One way that the car differentiates itself is in its nose. It has a matt aluminum frame holding the single-frame grill with wedge-shaped headlights and LED running lights. It also has larger low air intakes. To compensate for the higher weight, the front fenders are made from aluminum.

The top is made from fabric that is bonded to an acoustic foam that keeps the interior quiet when the top is up. It opens in 15 seconds and closes in 17 seconds and can be operated at up to 50km/h. The top uses 60 liters of rear cargo space, which leaves 320 liters of rear cargo space with the top open. The rear seats can be folded down to add to cargo volume. The top will be available in black, gray, red or brown.

The interior of the RS5 Cabriolet is identical to the standard car.

The convertible version weighs 1935kg, compared to 1790kg for the standard car. It accelerates to 100km/h in 4.9 seconds. The top speed is 250km/h, but Audi will boost it to 280km/h as an option. It uses 10.9l/100km. It uses a seven-speed dual clutch transmission with launch control and 40:60 rear-biased all-wheel drive. Up to 70% of the power can be directed to the front. Optionally, buyers can opt for a sport differential that will move power between the two rear wheels.

The RS5 goes on sale in early 2013 in Germany.
