GT (United States of America, 2005)

Ford launched a supercar model simply called GT in 2003 and started producing it the following year at Ford’s Michigan factory. This car, previously unveiled at a 2002 motor show, is best known for its extremely high performance levels and it was so well accepted on the automobile business that Ford decided to produce it on a limited quantity.

In fact, as soon as the Ford GT was introduced to the public, the demand for copies quickly exceeded the availability. Ford stopped producing the GT in 2006 after 4.038 units had been built.

The mid-engined Ford GT is powered by a supercharged 5.4-liter V8 engine with 550 hp. The car achieves its top speed at 212 mi/h (341 km/h) and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mi/h in just 3.7 seconds. It has a rear-wheel drive system and a ‘Ricardo’ 6-speed manual transmission with a helical limited-slip differential.

The Ford GT is 2-seater that was styled by Ford’s chief designer Camilo Pardo as director of the Living Legends design studio and under the leadership of J. Mays. The styling team was majorly inspired by the Ford GT40, a racing model of the 1960’s, and created an aesthetically similar car, only with larger width and height dimensions.

Drivers Hidetoshi Mitsusada and Daisuke Ikeda currently drive an uptuned Ford GT at the GT300 class of the Super GT competition.
FIA’s GT3 European Championship is also having three Ford GT GT3 units being raced by the Swiss team Matech Racing. The team actually claimed victory at this competition’s 2008 season with one of those cars.

At the American series of the Le Mans GT2 class, both Doran Racing and Falken Tires teams are currently competing with Ford GT cars.
