Ford's 2011 version of the Shelby GT500 is powered by an aluminum-block 5.4-liter supercharged V8 engine, saw its horsepower increased by 10 up to 550 over the 2010 version and features a torque of 691.5. With the engine weighting less 46 kg the Shelby GT500 saw its power-to-weight ratio, fuel economy, acceleration, handling and steering precision enhanced.

The engine fitted under the bonnet of the Shelby GT500 uses a Plasma Transferred Wire Arc (PTWA) liner coating, which is a process that applies a 150-micron composite coating that contains nanoparticles on the internal surfaces of engine cylinder bores, replacing cast-iron liners typically used in aluminum engine blocks.

The GT500’s performance on and off the track, as well as its many features made it a much appreciated version. It received a 2.75-inch exhaust system, revised brake cooling and pedal box construction for more consistent brake pedal efforts and feel, and electric power-assisted steering (EPAS). The 2011 model year also features an optional glass roof which may provide customers with yet another open-air option. The model comes as a limited production of 5,500 unit in order to ensure exclusivity.
