Opel unveiled the first model of the Ascona series in the fall of 1970 in Rüsselsheim, setting off the car’s production immediately after.
The Opel Ascona A was manufactured until 1975, finishing with nearly 692.000 copies built.
topThe Ascona A cars were provided with petrol engines that could have 1.2-, 1.6- or 1.9-liter capacity. The engines offered produced from 60 hp to 90 hp, to which joins a special version (Ascona SR) with 123 hp.
topThe Opel Ascona A was available as 2- and 4-door sedans, as well as a 3-door station wagon (Ascona Caravan or Voyage).

Opel entered the automobile business in 1899, selling Opel-Lutzmann cars, the first of them being the “Patent Motor Car”. Partnership between Opel and Lutzman was terminated in 1901 and Adam Opel’s son initiated a new contract with the French carmaker Darracq that allowed the German company to built Opel-Darracq cars. These cars received their chassis from Darracq and their bodies from Opel.
