This British carmaker was named Panther after the fast feline, and Westwinds after the name of its founder’s, Robert Jankel, family house. Panther Westwinds opened doors in 1972 and achieved notoriety in the automobile history, despite the small number of units produced. From the first model released by Panther, the J72 with a Jaguar engine, only 300 units were produced and from the Panther Six model only 2 cars were made. The incredible high costs of production were partly the reason for this. They were probably the cause behind the financial problems that the company struggled with in the late 1970s and that led to the selling of Panther in 1980. Bought by the Korean entrepreneur Young Kim, Panther managed to survive for a decade, but the new models failed to capture buyers and the Kim liquidated the company’s assets and sold it to SsangYong Motor Company.
