Stanley Motor Carriage Company was founded by the brothers Francis  and Freelan Stanley in  Newton, Massachusetts, in 1902. They had produced their first steam-powered car in 1897 but later they decided to sell the rights to Locomobile, and form the Stanley Motor Carriage Company and developed a new car design. In 1917, the company was sold to Prescott Warren. The appearance of internal combustion engines turned the steam power obsolete and production ceased in 1924.
