The Vauxhall VXR8 model returned in 2011 with a redesigned front- and rear-end styling, a new cabin and a pack of technology with the goal to appeal drivers to what is one of the last, rear-drive V8 super-saloons.

The restyled V8 super-saloon received a new ‘Shockwave’ grille, LED daytime running lights and new wing-vents. At the back the new VXR8 features a new ‘Superflow’ rear spoiler, LED tail lamps and twin exhaust tips that imitates the shape of the front grille.

The VXR8 race-bred chassis continues to feature the MacPherson struts/progressive rate coil springs at the front and a multi-link independent set-up at the rear. In a first for the VXR8, the model is employing the Magnetic Ride Control (MRC), a suspension system which adapts up to 1000 times a seconds to road conditions and driver inputs. This technology, similar to the one used in GM’s current Corvette ZR1 supercar, the MRC works by sending an electric current through damper units filled with ‘soft’ magnetic particles. Drivers are provided with exceptional levels of ride, handling and stopping power as these particles harden as the input reaches its maximum value.

The MRC system is complemented by the Launch Control, which is connected when drivers select the ESC’s (Electronic Stability Control) Competition Mode. According to surface conditions, this system dictates the level of torque delivered to the rear wheels for maximum acceleration.

The new VXR8 is powered by a large-capacity V8, a fourth generation 6.2-litre LS3 unit that has a power output of 431PS and torque of 550Nm of torque. The VXR8 accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h). The engine is matted with either a six-speed manual or auto transmission.
